Café and Cake
Trying a cake at the Oberlaa confectionary is a must (I would recommend the Trüffeltorte and signature Kurbadtorte). There are several Oberlaa cafés in Vienna but the café at the Neuermarkt is the nicest.
The Hawelka café is one of the most traditional cafés in Vienna. It appears slightly worn down at first glance but it certainly makes up for with its ambience.
Hotel Sacher claims to be have the original Sachertorte (chocolate cake) recipe that you can take home as a souvenir gift. You can also get a taster of the Sachertorte at the Hotel Sacher café.
Finally, no list of Viennese confectionaries and cafés would be complete without mention of Café Demel that served the imperial family and has an excellent selection of cakes and biscuits.
